Manta rays and whale sharks are both extremely large and charismatic species. Sadly, they are also under threat. Scientists at the Manta Ray & Whale Shark Research Centre, based at Tofo Beach in southern Mozambique, are conducting cutting-edge field research on these amazing fishes. The results of these scientific studies are being directly applied to the conservation and protection of these two iconic species.

Tofo Beach is a major international hot-spot for both manta rays and whale sharks. The Research Centre works with sponsors, international scientific collaborators, the marine tourism industry, conservation organisations and the Mozambican government to identify and solve the problems that manta rays and whale sharks face in Mozambique and worldwide.
